    Lac La Biche Muslim Mosque
    The original Mosque was constructed in 1958, the second to be built in Canada and the third in North America. This historic site was built by a group of about 12 families with donated materials.     Stephansson House Historical Site
    30 minutes southwest of Red Deer on Hwy 592 and 781 (approx. 2 hours sothwest of Edmonton). Stephansson House is a classic tribute to homesteading life and to one of the greatest poets in the western world, Stephan G. Stephansson, Poet Laureate of Iceland.     Bodo Dig Site & Center
    The dig site is located near Bodo, Alberta. The center is open from May to August, and on request. July 1 an open house is available to attend. Tours to the dig site, displays, flintknapper etc. are part of the day.The site is based on native finds of up to 3000 years ago. There are 3 levels of occupation, the find was discovered in 1995. The U of A began its field schools in 2001 and have continued each summer since.

    Fort Normandeau
    A replica of the fort built in 1885 at The Crossing, site of the original Red Deer settlement. The ford in the river at this site became an important stopover for traders. During the North West (Riel) Rebellion, the structures were fortified. May 16 to Sept, daily noon - 8 pm, hols 1 pm - 5 pm.

    Rundle's Mission
    Rundle's Mission Historic Site was established in 1847 by the Rev. Robert Rundle on the NW shores of Pigeon Lake. Today it is home to a beautiful hand hewn log lodge with two fireplaces and catering kitchen. In addition, the two bungalows have five semi-private rooms with bathrooms and a kitchen and common area. A great place for family reunions, hostelling, meetings, or retreats. The interpretive boardwalk with natural artesian spring explains the history of the area and is open to the public year round. Beach area and nature reserve for hikes and Cross country skiing are right next door. Come and see why Rev. Rundle picked this beautiful part of Alberta.

    Lac La Biche Mission National Historical Site
    The Lac La Biche Mission is located 11 km Northwest of Lac La Biche and was established between 1853-1856 alongside the Hudson's Bay Company Post. Today, almost fully restored, guided tours of the site showcase the first production wheat field as well as the first printing press and sawmill in Alberta.

    Flat Iron House
    The oddly-shaped Flat Iron building is so named due to its resemblance to an actual flat iron from the sky. This is just one of the many restored Edwardian buildings in Lacombe's downtown, and dates back to 1905. Inside is an interpretive centre highlighting the history of architecture in the city and displaying artifacts from its past.

    Ribstones
    Quartzite boulders carried from the Canadian Shield by glaciers. Carved by Cree Indians and arranged in a rib pattern, the rocks are thought to have been used in fertility rites for the buffalo. Free.

    Commemorates the mass settlement in 1903 of 2,000 colonists from England led by Rev. Isaac Barr.     Michener House
    The birthplace of Rt. Hon. Roland Michener, Governor General of Canada from 1967 - 1974. The house was built in 1894 and has been restored to the period. Free, open year round, Fri and Sat 1 pm - 4 pm.

    Nordegg Heritage Centre
    Once Canada's largest producer of coal briquettes, this national historic site chronicles the history of the area's mining community circa the early 1900s. Pictures and artifacts depicting the community are on display at the centre's museum. Free. There's also a gift shop and cafe on-site. May 11 to Sept 29, daily 9 am - 5 pm, free. Tours of the Brazeau Collieries leave from the centre daily. Short tour starts at 10 am and runs approx. 1 1/2 (hours) $4 adults, children under 12 free.     Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site
    The North West Company and the rival Hudson's Bay Company both erected fur trading posts in this area as early as 1799. Site encompasses the archaeological remains of four forts built between 1799 and 1875.
